Why did you take part in Wake Up To Organic 2019?
We wanted to take part in this year's Wake Up To Organic because we did it for the first time last year and thought it was a successful day. It was a great way to attract more people to the shop and introduce them to organic food and things they had never tried before, like cider vinegar and beetroot juice.
What did you get out of it?
We received a few boxes full of lovely organic foods which enabled us to share some super tasty samples and some pleasant conversation with anyone who happened to stop by. Since then we have started stocking some of the products sampled on that day and they are very popular!
What did you do on the day?
On the day we set up tables outside our shop with the delicious samples all spread out and ready to go, cereal was shared out into the tubs provided and drinks were poured into teeny tiny little cups for sipping. We also had an extra member of staff in that day to chat to people passing by about our organic samples and offer them a taste. Our lovely milkman even gave us some small cartons of organic (of course!) milkshakes to give away!
Was it a success?
We felt like it wasn't quite as busy as last year, although that could have been down to the weather as it was cold and rainy, especially compared to last year which was super sunny. The footfall on Wednesdays is always low regardless of the weather. At the end of the event we did give away almost everything we'd set out on the tables that morning, even if some of that was customers coming back for seconds!
What was the highlight of the day?
Our highlight was definitely the fact that we got to introduce a lot of people to a range of foods that they would otherwise never think to try and chat with them about everything from the benefits of organic, to the miserable weather! It certainly adds a little fun to a regular work day!
How did you market it?
Marketing for the event was done by word of mouth (using the handy flyers provided) and posting on social media (Facebook & Instagram @maethymeysydd) with info and pictures of some of the products that would be out for sampling. We also ran a raffle alongside the sample event with prizes provided by one of our great wholesalers (Suma Wholefoods).
Do you have any great ideas for running your Wake Up To Organic events next year?
So far we have not made any plans for next year but watch this space!
